Head of Sustainable Journeys

Job Description

Are you seeking a highly visible role which offers the opportunity to develop, co-ordinate and deliver a Greater Manchester wide behaviour change programme aimed at getting more people to use sustainable transport systems, including cycling and walking?

Are you passionate about inspiring and influencing others to adopt and embed forward thinking programmes and activities, aligned to key GM-wide strategic priorities?

Reporting to the Customer Director and working closely with the GM Cycling and Walking Commissioner and other partners, as Head of Sustainable Journeys you will lead the future direction and development of a behaviour change programme, and will lead and manage the team who will deliver positive long term change, maximising the opportunities presented by the evolving Cycling and Walking, Health, Air Quality and Congestion Deal priorities across Greater Manchester, allowing people to make informed decisions on their travel choices.

Transport for Greater Manchester oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to help shape our strategies. This is a busy and exciting time for us; with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse and with the appointment of the first GM C&W Commissioner by the GM Mayor, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity.

You will be a leader with a proven track record in developing and delivering successful change programmes, having a clear understanding of how they integrate with other strategies, plans and priorities to bring about effective and long lasting outcomes. You will have strong influencing skills, will be experienced in developing and implementing policy initiatives and working with senior level stakeholders within both the public and private sector. Experience of working effectively with elected members is also required.

This is a really exciting time to join our organisation. If you believe you have the skills and expertise we need, we would really like to hear from you!

In return, as well as a competitive salary, we offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:
-
free home to work travel by train or Metrolink within the Greater Manchester boundary;
- free bus travel across Greater Manchester;
-
27 days annual leave;
- access to the local government pension scheme.

At TfGM we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve
