Responsibilities

We are seeking an Associate Director with extensive experience of business development and work-winning, possessing a broad understanding of the current Public Sector market in Scotland. 

This skill set will be coupled with ability to develop and grow a team of Transport Professionals to meet our client’s needs.

Based out of our Edinburgh or Glasgow office, the role requires:

  • Delivery on an entrepreneurial and collaborative basis to win substantial work and significantly grow our Public Sector market share with clients in Scotland, whilst working within the strategic client & growth strategy set for Transport Planning and the wider WSP business.
  • Taking commercial responsibility for our local frameworks and focusing business development activity on defined priorities within the Public Sector market beyond our current core client base in Scotland.
  • Leading project teams in the delivery of a varied portfolio of Transport Planning work, and alongside colleagues in other service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects. Direct engagement with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support in leading the management, development and growth of the Scotland teams based in Glasgow and Edinburgh, 
  • Support the delivery of our Transport Strategy for the North of the UK (c. 130 staff across offices), both technically and pastorally. Responsibility for attending resourcing meetings, securing team workload and maintaining utilisation expectations.
  • Leading and encouraging professional development through mentoring team members and training.

The Transport Planning Service Line is based in offices across the country with over 370 staff currently making up the team. WSP’s Transport Planning experts have a strong track record, and this role provides the opportunity to have a pivotal role shaping and growing the Service Line in Scotland and nationally.

Qualifications

  • A proven ability to public sector win work and grow a transport planning offer in Scotland 
  • Significant knowledge and experience of delivering multi-disciplinary projects in the UK, particularly for local authority clients
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams
  • Proven experience of managing significant contracts
  • Knowledge of current Scotland transport policy
  • Experience of negotiating with a range of stakeholders through the application of strong communication and collaboration skills.

The following skills / qualifications are desirable:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body and Chartered status
  • Degree in Transportation Planning or other relevant subject
  • Experience of traffic engineering and modelling
  • Full and clean driving license
