Are you looking for a challenging and varied transport planning role with a major organisation?

These posts are based in our Manchester and Woking offices where we have a large transport planning team offering a wide range of services to public and private sector clients.  This team deals with strategic and micro-simulation modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning, traffic management, engineering and road safety, parking strategy, public transport and a variety of related topics.

The requirement is for a Senior Transport Planner to work on and assist in leading a range of transport studies dealing with transport strategy and policy, feasibility studies, sustainable travel, scheme development and business cases.

This role would suit an experienced Transport Planner who has developed a strong technical base and gained some initial experience in project management, who now wishes to take the opportunity to work closer with our clients and take a greater level of responsibility on project direction and overall responsibility of the projects.

The position will enable you to provide solutions to our client’s real-world problems throughout the project life-cycle, with the opportunity to work closely with our other departments in order to provide a successful outcome. It will allow you to build experience of proposal writing, customer and project management and mentoring whilst developing your own skills.

Demonstration of your experience in a transport planning occupation, in either the public or the private sector would be expected with evidence of developing responsibilities within this career. This should include personal capability in one or more of the following fields:

• Transport policy and strategy • Feasibility studies• Sustainable travel• scheme development• business cases

You will have commitment to on-going personal development and the development of others, providing the benefit of your significant experience and understanding of the transport planning profession.

Role Specific Responsibilities:

• Assist in leading and managing a range of transport and work closely with the senior colleagues and other members of staff both within and outside Transport Planning • Implement project methodologies in consultation with senior colleagues• Assist senior colleagues on projects and provide advice to independent teams• Assist the Divisional Manager with providing career development support to team members  • Deliver technical inputs to required quality, cost and time.• Prepare high quality reports and technical notes.• Keep up to date with developments in areas of professional expertise.• Actively contribute towards other duties across the Business Unit e.g.: health & safety, quality, training, Client feedback etc.• Engage with more senior colleagues to develop scope of work, timescales and budget expectations. Identify potential for change to agreed delivery outcomes.• Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives, ensuring that deliverables conform with the project manager’s requirements.• Maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients.• Deliver to agreed personal targets.

You will have:

• Numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or a related subject (essential)• MSc in Transport Planning/Engineering (desirable). • Ideally Chartered Professional (CEng, MRTPI, TPP or CMILT) status (desirable).• A clear and comprehensive understanding of UK Government transport planning policies and guidance, including WebTAG and DMRB (essential).• One or more of the following areas of transport planning: transport strategy and policy, feasibility studies, sustainable travel, scheme development and business cases.• You should be proficient in Word and Excel. (essential).• Experience of working with public and private sector clients would be advantageous (desirable).• Proven ability of working within a team environment in undertaking large strategic modelling projects and contributing towards the preparation of key deliverables (essential).• You should be highly numerate with strong problem solving skills (essential).• You should have a proven capability to communicate clearly (essential).• You should have the ability to work under minimum supervision (essential).• Experience of working within company project management, safety health and environmental systems and processes would be advantageous (desirable).
