Call for nominations - Transport Planner of the Year and Young Transport Planner of the Year

Nominations are being sought for the Transport Planning Society sponsored ‘Transport Planner of the Year Award 2024' and 'Young Transport Planner of the Year Award 2024'.

We are looking for individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the transport planning profession over the last year. This could be in the form of a project delivered, a pioneering technique or approach used, someone who has put their head above the parapet, or just because they are a good ambassador for the profession.

Following the outstanding response to our new category last year, ‘Young Transport Planner of the Year’, we’re delighted to be including this category once again for 2024. The criteria will be anyone under the age of 30 or with less than 7 years of experience in transport planning.

All entries must be nominated by a colleague or third party and awards are made for contributions in the year from 1st March 2023 to 29th February 2024.

When making your nomination, please provide information/evidence against each of the following criteria, which will be used by the judges in their decision-making process:

  • Demonstrable achievement during the year
  • Wider contribution to the profession (e.g. external activities such as conferences/presentations)
  • Illustration of a broad skill set
  • Offering something new, unusual or diverse

Please send the name of your nominee and no more that 250 words stating why they should be considered for this award, to our Business Manager, Sarah McSharry at businessmanager@tps.org.uk

The deadline is Friday 12th April.

This prestigious award will be presented at the annual Transport Practitioners’ Meeting to be held from 3-4 July in Manchester. Last year's winner for Transport Planner of the Year was Will Pedley,Senior Transport Planner at Oxfordshire County Council. Will was nominated for his work creating Oxfordshire County Council’s Decide & Provide transport planning guidance, making Oxfordshire County Council the first local authority in the UK to produce and adopt such guidance. Using his strategic thinking, he was able to produce guidance with a wider purpose, enabling a shift in the way problems are approached to deliver sustainable places and transport mitigation measures.

Last year’s winner for the inaugural Young Transport Planner of the Year award was Grace Bailey, Senior Transport Planner at Atkins. Grace started her career as a transport planner just 5 years ago, but has been able to deliver an incredible body of work in such a short time. She has delivered innovative transport decarbonisation work for transformational Local Transport Plans in the Midlands and is at the forefront of helping local authorities achieving Net Zero targets.
