Type: Course
STAR Competence: 10.1 Detailed Modelling

Objectives:

This course is specifically designed with a strong focus on transport industry needs in both public and private sectors - addressing the requirements of various disciplines from transport modelling, enabling you to understand the scope of transport models and finally showing successful examples of communicating modelling outputs with clients, decision makers and stakeholders. This course also provides you with case studies of applying transport models to different types of interventions.

On completion of the course, delegates will:• Be able to familiarise with practical experience of the principles and techniques of       transport modelling• Be able to understand the type of data required to build transport models• Be able to present the modelling outputs to the wider audience including decision   makers• Have an understanding of approaches that can be applied to forecast the impacts of different types of schemes

Topics:

Session 1: Overview

  • Introduction and role of models in transport planning
  • Type of transport models and their use
  • Multi-modal transport modelling and model hierarchy
  • Interactive examples

Session 2: DEVELOPMENT

  • Data requirements for developing base year models
  • Model calibration and validation
  • Future year models and land use database
  • Interactive examples

Session 3: Case studies
