Our team of transport planners, transport modellers and traffic engineers work to deliver progressive, realistic and sustainable transportation solutions to customers across the UK, in both Central and Local Government and in the private sector. We support the robust planning of transport solutions, help to improve and optimise our transport networks and ultimately help make sure things run smoothly for the end user.

As a result of an increasing workload we are seeking to expand our team and are interested in speaking to transport planners of all levels and covering all skill areas, but particularly in modelling.

What is the purpose of this role?

To support the Principal Transport Planners with technical input into a variety of Transport Planning projects dealing with strategic modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning, business cases, and a variety of related topics ensuring the delivery of all specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required.

What will this role involve?

  • Undertaking model development, network building, matrix development, calibration and validation, forecasting / option testing and variable demand modelling.
  • Carry out site visits and surveys, as required.
  • Experience in the analysis and application of survey data for the development of models.
  • Assist in and preparation of high quality technical reports such as: Data Collection reports, Local Model Validation reports and Option Appraisal reports.
  • Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff, as required.
  • Help develop and maintain good working relationships with clients, Councillors, Amey staff, third parties and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation in working practices.

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant first degree and/or post graduate degree; for example transport, planning, geography or economics.
  • An MSc in an appropriate discipline would be desirable but not essential.
  • Senior Transport Planner with a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification modelling experience, preferably within a Transport Planning consultancy or a similar role in a local authority.
  • Acquired or working towards Transport Planning Professional Qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute; for example ICE, CILT or CIHT
  • Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite.
  • Experience on one or more of the following: COBALT, CUBE, DIADEM, TUBA, SATURN, VISUM.
  • Extensive WebTAG experience is also required.
  • Experience in land use planning data analysis.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and/or GIS.
  • Experience in a range of areas within the Transport Planning field, including (but not limited) to:
    • Transport modelling and forecasting of highway and public transport demand and supply.
    • Transport investment appraisal.
    • Business case assessment and development.
  • Awareness of junction design (priority, roundabout, signals).
  • Ability to communicate with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead a team on key tasks within a project and under minimum supervision.
  • Dedicated approach to working within and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Client focused approach to service delivery.
  • IOSH working safely.
