Senior Transport Planner - Development Planning

Job Description

We have a range of projects and opportunities with key clients including Transport for London, HS2 Ltd., major airports, public authorities and a range of private developers in London and overseas. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Transport Planner/Engineer skilled in development planning, surface access issues, strategic planning and policy work to strengthen our central London team and manage projects. 

The Role

You will provide project management and technical support on a variety of projects which may include individual site developments, development master plans and significant transport infrastructure schemes. You will need to use your transport planning and other skills to develop design proposals, analyse options, develop implementation strategies and assess benefits and impacts.

You will work with and manage work that involves the use of traffic modelling packages to assess scheme proposals. You will need to be familiar with the wider development planning process so that you can advise our clients in supporting planning applications and consents. You will be working as part of one or more project teams led by a project director or manager, and we will expect you to manage projects. You will also need to be able to work with wider multi-disciplinary design and planning teams. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential as you will be involved in preparing reports and advice notes and attending meetings. You may also be involved in the preparation of commercial bids.

Skills/Experience required for the role

Qualifications:

• University degree/HNC in a relevant discipline (e.g. civil engineering, geography, economics, mathematics)

• Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. TPS, CIHT, CILT)

Essential:

• Typically, around 6-8 years’ experience in transport planning, engineering and modelling for developments and transport infrastructure schemes.

• Proficiency in data collection, analysis and interpretation.

• Experience of transport engineering, including highway design for strategic and local roads, parking and servicing, public transport, walking and cycling schemes, particularly at the planning stage.

• Experience of local highway network analysis using related capacity analysis software (TRANSYT, PICADY, ARCADY, LINSIG etc).

• Working knowledge TfL assessment and modelling guidance.

• Experience of UK Town & Country Planning and Environmental Impact Assessment processes.

• Experience of using relevant design guidance (e.g. DMRB, Manual for Streets, cycling design standards etc).

• Experience at client, stakeholder and public meetings

• Experience of working within multi-disciplinary professional teams including architects, planning and engineering advisors.

• Excellent report writing, oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

• Masters degree in relevant discipline (e.g. transport planning).

• Experience of local highway network analysis using microsimulation software (VISSIM)

• Previous experience in a consultancy environment.

• Working towards or acquired Transport Planning Professional or other relevant Chartered qualification
