Our Road Safety Team delivers solutions to contracts across the UK in central and local government as well as the private sector. We work in partnership with a wide range of other skilled professionals across the business to plan and deliver sustainable and realistic transport solutions which shape the future of our towns and cities. At Amey you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your skills whilst gaining experience working as part of a wider team to help our customers resolve complex transport challenges.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide a team lead and advisory role for road safety / transport planning projects with particular emphasis on road safety engineering and audits. Your duties will include:

•Carry out road safety audits, as Team Leader, on a wide variety of highway scheme types, ranging from major motorways to minor traffic management schemes

•Successfully deliver a range of road safety-related project and activities, within company project management, safety health and environmental systems and processes

•Provide proactive leadership•Approve reports for quality of technical content

•Prepare bids and support wider business development activities

•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key clients

•Prepare and present technical information to internal and external groups

•Team mentoring and training, involving skills transfer and knowledge sharing of technical best practice

What we’re looking for

We are growing our team and are looking for someone to join us and lead our Road Safety Team in the Midlands, ideally based in Amey’s Birmingham office. We would like to hear from candidates who have the following:

•Qualified to HND / Degree level or equivalent in civil engineering or related subject including Transport Planning, Geography or Economics

•Certificate of Competency in Road Safety Audit (IAN152/11, EU Directive 2008/96 EC would be desirable)

•Member of a relevant professional body (CIHT/ICE/IHE/SoRSA)

•Formal training in road safety engineering would be desirable•Awareness of road safety engineering techniques and DMRB HD1915

•Ability to interpret STATS19 collision data

•Awareness of traffic and highway design guidance, including (but not limited) to: DMRB, TSRGD, DfT Traffic Signs Manual, CDM, Equality Impact, relevant legislation and Manual for Streets

•Experience of The Road Death Investigation Manual/Corporate Manslaughter Act/Road Traffic Acts and their associated case law and other highway legislation and Statutory Instruments (i.e. Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016)

•Awareness of transport planning guidance, development policies, transport strategies

•Awareness of National, Regional and Local transport policy development processes i.e RSS, LDF, LTP, Section 106 & 278 development processes

•Political awareness at a corporate / strategic level

•A substantial amount of experience in road traffic accident investigation, road safety engineering techniques and road safety audit

•Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary transport planning / road safety / traffic engineering environment (candidates will be assessed on merit)

•Excellent report writing and communication skill

•Clean driving licence
