We are seeking to recruit an Engineer grade Transport Planner / Engineer to join our Transport Planning team in Glasgow. The Transport Team undertake development planning work, providing advice to private sector and local authority clients on access and transportation issues and supporting development proposals through the planning process. The team works closely with our Infrastructure, Services, Structures and Environmental teams on larger multi-disciplinary development proposals.

Projects range from small residential developments through to the redevelopment of town centres, retail parks, foodstores, transport interchanges and major regeneration / mixed use schemes. 

The position will be to support the role of senior staff in managing Transport Assessment work and other general transportation advice on schemes. It will include the use of technical tools, site investigations, research and reporting and will also include some client contact.

A typical week would include:

  • Delivering development proposals as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under the guidance of others
  • Working within a team to achieve workable and economic masterplan and junction solutions for clients, including for the movement of both people and vehicles
  • Being active on a number of projects / client accounts at any given time

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Are degree educated and are approaching the appropriate professional qualification
  • Have experience of transport planning and inputting to development masterplans
  • Are well versed in the preparation of quality Transport Assessments, providing design advice to clients and architects, and supporting information such as Travel Plans
  • Ideally you will have knowledge of areas such as public transport and policies at local, regional and national level
  • Have demonstrable hands-on experience of traffic analysis software (TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, TRANSYT, LINSIG, Paramics or similar and spreadsheets) and analysis
  • Have knowledge of preliminary road design and AutoCad (desirable)
  • Experience of report writing
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Some Project Management and financial management experience may also be required on individual projects to ensure efficient use of resources and monthly invoicing. The position will report to both a Line Manager and individual Project Managers / Directors as necessary, although at Engineer level additional day-to-day support will also be provided by our Principal Engineers / Associates. The postholder will be expected to work as part of a team, including delegation of tasks.
