Consultant Transport Planner

We are seeking a Consultant Transport Planner to join our industry leading Transport Planning team to help deliver projects a diverse range of project. You would become an integral part of a respected team, with the role providing excellent career prospects and every opportunity for you to make your mark and influence the continuing sustainable growth of the regional transport planning team and wider AECOM business. 

This role brings opportunity to engage in the delivery of a range of transport planning studies including (but not limited to) strategic transport studies, business case development, monitoring and evaluation, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, electric vehicle studies, and public transport strategies.

You will also be given the ability to pursue relevant business and technical training to support your career development as well as the freedom to grow your network and develop innovative solutions to chase new opportunities.

You will work within a large and collaborative team to support the delivery of a diverse range of Transport Planning work within our regional and national portfolio including:

  • West of England Combined Authority Framework
  • Department for Transport Evaluation Scoping and Implementation
  • National Highways Monitoring and Evaluation Framework 
  • Birmingham City Council Professional Services Framework
  • Transport for West Midlands Transport Planning & Modelling Frameworks 
  • Midlands Highway Alliance PSP4
  • Transport for Wales (TfW) Framework
  • Black County Transport

You will have knowledge and demonstrable experience of a range of transport planning skills and with some experience of project management. Recent experience in business case development, strategic transport studies or monitoring and evaluation would be advantageous, but more importantly we are looking for candidates with a passionate about learning and have a curious mindset to assist clients in learning about ‘what works’ and why? We expect excellent written and oral communication skills which we will continue to develop.

  • Support the preparation of transport strategies, scheme appraisal and/or business case development.
  • Provide support to our graduates and apprentices.
  • Preparation and delivery of in-person presentations/workshops to local internal and external stakeholder groups 
  • Working with our regional and national leads, you will work on a wide range of projects, including the production of high-quality analysis and associated outputs, within time and budget.
  • Contribute to innovation, helping to grow AECOM’s presence in the regional transport market.
  • Support bids to win work with existing and new clients. 
  • Be proactive to make the most of our support and training to continue your professional development
  • Managing your time to ensure you meet deadlines

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Degree/Masters qualification in analytical subject (e.g. engineering, geography, mathematics, economics, spatial planning) from an accredited college or university, or overall equivalent experience.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant chartered professional institution such as the CIHT or TPS.
  • Experience in transport strategy, planning and/or business case development, demonstrating excellent technical capabilities (literacy, numeracy, communication).
  • An analytical background and broad understanding of transport planning methods and best practice techniques.
  • A highly motivated individual with an inquisitive mindset, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a consultancy environment.
  • A team player who can work as part of wider project teams across disciplines and geographies – making high quality technical contributions.
  • Adaptability to work on a wide range of transport planning projects, including Development Planning and Management / Spatial Planning projects.
  • Ability to engage with our clients and stakeholders, and to undertake in-person stakeholder facilitation.
  • Flexibility to travel to other AECOM and client offices, depending on project requirements.
