About the team and your role

You will be stepping into an established department with a strong pipeline of secured work. You will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of Transport Planning projects, for both public and private sector clients. As part of our Transport Planning England - North team, you will bring your skills to work on projects alongside colleagues with a rich blend of skills and experience, delivering outstanding work for our clients.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the continued success and growth of our business, contributing to the delivery of a diverse range of transport planning projects. They will help to unlock new opportunities through business development and work winning activity, all within a supportive, collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and development. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a real-world difference by contributing to projects that directly shape how people move, connect, and experience places every day.

 

What does the role look like?

Day to day, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Providing analytical support across multi-disciplinary teams, using existing capabilities and developing new skills where needed.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring project delivery meets client objectives and requirements.
  • Producing technically accurate work within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Supporting colleagues through technical guidance, training, mentoring, and development where appropriate.
  • Contributing to the preparation and presentation of proposals and bids, including estimating timescales and costs for proposed work.

 

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline, with a commitment to developing technical skills and progressing towards chartership (CTPP qualification or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience in Transport Planning with an understanding of delivery, work winning with public/private sector customers, and client liaison.
  • Project experience in some of the following; business case development, scheme feasibility, active travel, transport assessments, strategies, modelling, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent English written communication skills and report writing experience.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and seek assistance when required.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales are met.
  • Have a desire to learn and take responsibility for personal development.
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Enjoying working in a team environment, sharing knowledge and demonstrate pride in work.
  • Desirable but not essential: Familiarity and application of DfT TAG and business case guidance.
