Job Description

Join us in a role where you'll be at the forefront of driving growth and performance. Your mission is to improve our day-to-day delivery of performance to our customers and the network.  The role will concentrate on those areas you identify that need further focus to improve performance, either through changes to the timetable, operational practices or schemes to improve delivery.

The role will require you to work on your own initiative as well as work in partnership with the Network Rail Routes and Regions, the freight operating companies and our end-customers.  You will need to get out and about to locations across NW&C and Eastern Regions to see what is going on, understand the problems, make recommendations for performance improvement and champion these through delivery, allowing us to see the benefits once they are in place

You will need to be able to work through problem solving, work collaboratively and have a good eye for detail.  A good understanding of freight operations and railway geography would be desirable.

This is your chance to make a real impact and contribute to both local and national strategic objectives. Are you ready to steer us towards a future of excellence and growth? Join us now and let's drive change together!

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who can work on their own initiative, work collaboratively with various stakeholders, customers and Network Rail teams.  We are looking for someone who can spot performance issues, find solutions, and implement a plan to improve performance.  We are looking for someone who understands freight and how it works, as well as the geography of North West & Central and Eastern Regions.  You will need to hold Personal Track Safety certification too.

What does the average day look like?

Each day will be different, that’s the great thing about working in the freight team!  You might be attending a meeting with customers to discuss performance issues, or you might be out in a freight yard or signal box looking to see what is going on, or you might be talking through some timetable issues with our Capacity Planning colleagues in Milton Keynes.  Your day will be how you decide to improve performance delivery.

As the first point of contact for a range of enquiries regarding freight matters on the route, you’ll liaise with different department ensuring queries and requests are handled efficiently. You could then jump into a session with customers to identify performance improvement opportunities.

Your presence at line of route meetings is essential. Here, you'll represent or freight customers’ interests while ensuring alignment to Network Rail’s strategic and commercial goals.

Join us in this multifaceted role, where you'll make a real impact in the world of rail freight.
