Senior Transport Planner
Job Description
A member of the transport planning team, you will be integrated within a range of transport planning projects and assisting in driving these projects to successful delivery. You will be a key addition to the team, contributing to the continued development of Mott MacDonald’s market presence and the ongoing growth of the transport planning business in across the UK. You will also contribute to the company’s wider portfolio of international projects.You will be involved in the following role responsibilities:
- Working as part of our collaborative project teams in transport planning
- Providing briefings and delivering technical work for senior staff and clients
- Overseeing budgets, tasks and projects that match your ability, expertise, and interest
- Proposal and report writing
- Contributing to identifying new client opportunities and business development.
Candidate Specification : As a Transport Planning professional, you have post-graduate experience working within transport planning and have an interest in transportation, placemaking, sustainability and/or social development. You’re comfortable writing reports, supporting the bid and tendering process and are able to follow industry standard processes. Additionally, you’re able to use WebTag and modelling tools/techniques including LinSig, TRANSYT, ARCADY and PICADY.You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Degree in a related discipline (or equivalent)
- Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional organisation (such as IHT, ILT, TPS or ICE) or ideally looking to achieve chartered status (e.g. TPP)
- Professional communication skills liaising with clients and colleagues
- Demonstrable skills in some of the following: transport business cases, transport economics, scheme development and appraisal, transport policy & strategy, rail and bus planning, or sustainable transport planning
Although not essential, holding an MSc or post-graduate qualification in a transport/urban design related subject would be beneficial as would any experience on major movement studies. knowledge of the regional transport and regeneration market in your area would be of value

We work for both private and public-sector organisations whilst we have major frameworks in transport planning, travel demand management and modelling with Transport for London, Merseytravel, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Midlands Connect.We are recruiting across the United Kingdom with opportunities in all of our offices (London, Croydon, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Cambridge, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh) to be part of teams delivering a fantastic array of projects both in their regions such as regeneration schemes in Birkenhead and Carlisle, as well as opportunities to work on projects of national and international importance such as HS2.
