Transport Planner – Scheme Evaluation

Job Description

We are recruiting Transport Planners with a passion for transport scheme evaluation to join our growing Transport Planning Team and would like to discuss our exciting range of opportunities with prospective candidates.  We have been very successful in winning evaluation work over the past six years, due to the quality of the Team we have at Atkins and due to the excellent relationships we have formed with our clients. We work with Department for Transport, National Highways,  and many local authorities on a varied portfolio of monitoring and evaluation studies spanning process, impact and economic evaluation. Our 20mph policy evaluation for Department for Transport was a particularly high-profile recent example in which we are extremely proud of the national coverage it received and of the scope and innovation shown in delivery. We have positions available for both those looking to develop a career in monitoring and evaluation through to those with many years’ experience in monitoring and evaluation who could help to lead and deliver projects. The ideal candidate has Transport Planning experience to assist in our broader consultancy activities across the country, but the individual will look to focus on our evaluation portfolio where possible. The role will provide direction, training and support ensuring best practice is followed leading to the efficient and timely delivery of projects.

We support agile working and offer a fantastic environment with fresh, modern offices that buzz with the excitement of people working at the leading edge of our industry.  Join us and you’ll be joining a business that places no limits on how far you can progress.

You will be responsible for:

  • Support and leadership of evaluation projects for a multitude of clients. This includes direct liaison with internal and external clients including commercial aspects such as scope and budget.
  • Responsibility for the delivery of projects to time and quality parameters including adherence to the Atkins processes and ensuring the adoption of analytical assurance best practice.
  • Working with and directing junior colleagues in evaluation work.
  • Working with colleagues to design robust methodologies to evaluation challenges.
  • Supporting the transport planning discipline beyond evaluation as appropriate, with broader transport planning skills a must have.

The Candidates:

We have an exciting range of opportunities across disciplines and levels of experience.  Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a blend of experience from the following:

  • 5 or more years’ experience in transport planning.
  • Evaluation experience required. This can be programme, policy and/or scheme evaluation experience.
  • Experience with using a broad range of transport data to support evaluation.
  • Logic mapping experience would be beneficial.
  • Support in the writing of bid submissions and fee proposals.
  • Some project management experience.
  • Broader transport planning skills beyond evaluation.
  • Successful candidates will have, commensurate to their level of experience:
  • Degree in relevant subject.
  • Some Project Management experience of transport planning projects including managing/supporting project teams and client engagement.
  • Bid support and project costing experience.
  • Excellent skills in communicating and reporting on technical matters.
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines.
  • Confident team worker with ability to work independently, and to assist others.
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.
