The National Transport Authority (NTA) is pleased to join the Transport Planning Society (TPS) Public Sector Partner Programme.
The NTA is responsible for the provision, regulation, and integration of public transport services—including taxis—as well as the delivery of supporting infrastructure for sustainable transport. The Authority promotes the use of sustainable transport as a mode of choice and works to integrate transport and land use planning.
In practice, this remit aligns with that of many urban transport authorities, particularly in the development of sustainable transport infrastructure to support economic growth across Ireland’s five city regions: Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, and Galway. The NTA’s responsibilities also extend to all rural areas of Ireland.
Transport planning skills and expertise are essential to the NTA’s activities. A significant number of transport planning professionals work across a diverse range of roles within the organisation.
In 2018, the Transport Planning Society awarded the prestigious Transport Planner of the Year award to former NTA CEO Anne Graham, recognising her leadership and contribution to the field. In presenting the award, Lynda Addison, TPS Chair, stated:
“Anne exemplifies all the characteristics of an excellent transport planner: she provides a very good role model.”
The NTA has supported the TPS in Ireland since the establishment of the Republic of Ireland branch in 2012, and looks forward to further developing this relationship as a Public Sector Partner.
