Event: Experimenting with City Streets to Transform Urban Mobility

Join us in London for a unique free event exploring how to transform streets into diverse, inclusive places and relieve cities from automobile dependency. Over the day, you will be introduced to innovative tools developed by leading European academic institutions and cities.

The tools will help you explore solutions for:

  • citizen participation in street experimentation
  • accessibility measurement for city districts
  • walking and cycling enhancements
  • Impacts of shared mobility options
  • governance of street space reallocations

We invite you to participate in different interactive workshops to experience these tools firsthand and discover how they can revolutionise urban and mobility planning. There will also be opportunities to learn from international peers engaged in similar undertakings.

Don't miss this chance to shape the future of your city streets and city-wide mobility systems! Limited spaces are available, so book your free spot now. Lunch and drinks will be provided.

Who are we?

We are the EX-TRA project (Experimenting with City Streets to Transform Urban Mobility), an international consortium that includes the University of Amsterdam, the Technical University of Munich, the Politecnico di Milano, Ghent University, and the University of Westminster. Over the past three years, the project, involving partners from academia and practice, has conducted research in six cities (London, Milan, Bologna, Munich, Ghent and Amsterdam) on streets and change.

The EX-TRA project focused on increasing inclusivity in city streets, transport and land use conditions for enhancing walking and cycling accessibility in city districts, the mobility impacts of shared mobility platforms and street reallocations, and lastly, governance strategies accelerating the transition towards a ‘post-car’ city. Central to the project is the role of ‘city street experiments’, or intentional and temporary change to street use, regulation and form, in enabling change.
