How do we turn the vision of a connected, accessible public EV charging network into reality? We explored that question and the critical integration of policy, places, and people – and key considerations for local authorities and landowners when rolling out infrastructure as part of our online event on 5/11/2025. The event was chaired by TPS Chair Nicola Kane and also featured Matthew Ling (Suffolk County Council) and Matt Croucher (Believ).

In the session, we examined:

  • Understanding where there is demand for public EV charging, and what’s the right charger type? Travel behaviours, land use types and dwell time, matching charger type to location and user behaviour.
  • How can policy, planning, and partnerships work together? We heard from local authorities and industry experts about aligning national and local policy with on-the-ground realities, and how collaboration with charge point operators can unlock delivery and critical private sector funding and expertise.
  • Barriers and solutions: From funding and grid constraints to community engagement, and key lessons learnt.
