Transport Planning Society Welcomes Ben Plowden as New Chair

The Transport Planning Society is pleased to announce the election of Ben Plowden as its new chair, succeeding Mark Frost

Ben’s election on a 2-year term was confirmed at Transport Planning Society’s AGM held on 9 March 2023).

Ben is an Associate at PA Consulting, an Associate at LSE Cities and a Visiting Professor at the UCL Centre for Transport Studies. Prior to joining PA, Ben spent twenty years in a number of senior transport planning and project sponsorship roles in TfL and was the founding CEO of Living Streets.

Commenting on his appointment as Chair, Ben said:

“I’m delighted and honoured to have been elected as the new Chair of the Transport Planning Society (TPS).

“Developing a fair, integrated, decarbonised transport system based on improving access to goods, services and opportunities is essential to deal with the multiple challenges we face – the climate and ecological emergencies, social exclusion and improving diversity and inclusion in the transport sector.

“The TPS has a central role to play in developing that system, through representing transport planners and supporting their professional development throughout their careers; making the case for sustainable transport and a just transition to a net zero economy; and tackling issues around diversity and inclusion, both in the transport system and in the transport sector.

“I look forward to working with the TPS Board, its members and our many partners in helping to bring about a cleaner, greener, fairer future.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d also like to extend our thanks to Kate Morris, Laura Putt and Lucy Marstrand-Taussig who stepped down from the Board at our AGM.”

In addition to the new Chair, the Society elected two new Board members, Daisy Narayanan from the City of Edinburgh Council and Liani Baglietto Castellares, from Arup.

The Transport Planning Society also re-elected four board members at the meeting - Susan Cross, Mark Frost, T m Cuthbert and Isabelle Milford.

Nichola Byrne has stepped down from the board following the AGM.
