Transport Planning Day People's Award

The people’s award –thank you for entering!

Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to enter our first ever People’s Award for a transport planning project that has had a positive impact on people’s lives.

We’re delighted with the wide range of top-quality entries received from communities across the UK. This will help send a positive message to the professionals about what is important to communities and best practice in community engagement in transport planning.

What happens next?

Our excellent judging panel  of community experts are now reviewing the entries to decide the finalists and overall winner of the People’s Award.

For the winners

Raise your profile on a wider stage and engage with politicians and professionals. Use this as a springboard to seek further change in your area.

All communities who entered the People’s Award are invited to an afternoon tea reception in Parliament hosted by Lilian Greenwood MP (Chair of the House of Commons Transport Select Committee) on Wednesday 10 October where we will announce the People’s Award finalists.

Communities are also invited to a special event at the Institution of Civil Engineers on Tuesday 13 November to mark Transport Planning Day. We will reveal the overall winner of the People’s Award at this event. (More information below.)

All finalists will receive a certificate, feature on the Transport Planning Society website and in the Awards Ceremony brochure. Those shortlisted are also entitled to use our Transport Planning Day People’s Award Finalist logo on your literature or website.

More widely, the awards will be used to highlight the people behind the projects, and feature positive role models to inspire more young people to choose transport planning as a career. Your nomination could have a big influence on someone’s life.

About the People’s Award

We transport planners seek to support and enrich people’s lives through well planned transport. Community engagement is an essential part of this, as local people know which schemes will make things better for their communities. That’s why the People’s Award focuses on hearing back from local communities about the difference transport has made to improving their lives.

We invited people, groups, campaigners, communities, Parish Councils, Town Councils, residents’ associations, civic societies etc to submit nominations for transport projects that have made a significant difference to living in your locality, and to tell us how people’s day-to-day lives have been improved.

This could be something that has created new opportunities for travel, improved the environment, created nicer public space, made it easier to get around, improved the journey to school or the shops or made your area a better one in any other way. It could be a big or a small scheme – we are taking that into account in judging the nominations.

We transport planners seek to support and enrich people’s lives through well planned transport. But now we want to hear back from you about the difference that transport has actually made to your lives.

So we are offering awards to people, groups, campaigners, communities, Parish Councils, Town Councils etc. to submit nominations for transport projects that have made a significant difference to living in your locality, and to tell us how people’s day-to-day lives have been improved.
