Chair

Treasurer

Susan is a Senior Associate Director in Transport Planning at Jacobs in London with over 30 years’ experience in the profession. Her recent experience includes working on major transport projects in the UK, including the hybrid Bills for HS2 Phase One and Phase 2, Lower Thames Crossing and Crossrail 2. She is a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTTP) and a long-standing reviewer of the qualification.  She is also an advocate of the TPS PDS.

Company Secretary

Kieran is a former transport planner with London Transport Planning, where he worked on business planning, policy development and strategy, and at London Borough of Hounslow. He joined Steer as a consultant and later became Company Secretary there.

Legally qualified, Kieran has experience in board governance in the NHS and private sector. He is a former member of the board of the Employee Ownership Association. He is now a freelance consultant on transport and governance issues.

Interests include the politics of road pricing and promoting active lifestyles. During lockdown he wrote a website promoting the use of public transport for leisure walking - www.walkbyrail.co.uk

Lisa is a Director and Joint Head of Planning at Steer. She has over 25 years’ experience of designing and implementing strategies and programmes which have successfully delivered a sustained level of mode shift away from the car, and increased use of sustainable transport. 

She worked in the United States for six years until 2020 building a Planning practice for Steer and undertaking a range of TDM projects. Most recently she spent two years working at Heathrow Airport, leading the Surface Access Strategy team to deliver a strategy focused on passengers, colleagues and freight.

Mark is an experienced Local Government professional to Assistant Director level, now Director of Fern Consulting Services providing support to clients on strategic transport planning; regeneration & placemaking; environmental strategy, traffic and parking policy and; supporting regional networks and public sector staff capacity building/mentoring.  Mark is a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP), and a previous Chair of the Transport Planning Society.

Communications

Georgia is Lime's UK and Ireland Public Policy Manager, where she champions both the roll-out and legislative framework for a sustainable micro-mobility powered future. Prior to joining Lime, she worked as a Transport Planner in both the public and private sector, most recently leading on Behaviour Change programmes at the London Borough of Ealing, like Ealing's Liveable Neighbourhood scheme. Georgia was previously announced as Bursarian of the Year in 2019 as part of the Society's annual bursary competition and is currently studying for her MSc in Transport Planning and Management at the University of Westminster.

Transport Planning Day and Membership

Tim is Director of Transport Planning at Jacobs and a leader within the wider Cities and Places part of the business. He has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and has held senior management roles in a number of top-tier consultancies both in the UK and overseas. Developing urban transport strategies, preparing business cases, transport master-planning, and sustainable modes are Tim’s primary areas of expertise. He enjoys working with young professionals and is a supporter of the transport planning apprenticeship scheme, TPS Professional Development Scheme and the TPP qualification.  In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking and country walks.

Events

Ruby is a Senior Transport Planner in Stantec’s Active Travel Team, based in Glasgow. Prior to this she worked for several years in London, including providing support to Camden and Enfield Borough Councils on their COVID-19 ‘emergency’ measures, and supporting the pan-London public sector transport group, LoTAG.

Now based in Scotland, she is currently working on improving access by active modes to employment locations in Renfrewshire, improvements to long distance footpaths in the Scottish Borders, and consulting with local stakeholders about Glasgow’s cycling improvements around the University of Strathclyde.

She was a TPS Bursarian in 2020 and won ‘Best Paper by a Young Professional’ at the 2018 TPM. She is passionate about widening and diversifying the appeal of walking and cycling both for leisure and transport.

Roger is a Director at WSP overseeing growth within its dedicated local government business. 

With 24 years of experience, he has worked both in local government and consultancy with a focus on network and demand management. He is passionate about diversity and inclusion and previously chaired WSP’s award-winning LGBTQ+ network.

Daisy Narayanan is the Head of Placemaking and Mobility at the City of Edinburgh Council where she leads on delivering a city-wide integrated approach to transport planning and placemaking. She trained as an architect and urban designer and over the last decade, her work has focussed on sustainable transport and climate action. 

Daisy sits on the Board of Architecture and Design Scotland and is a member of the Evidence Group of Scotland’s Climate Assembly. She sits on the judging panel for Scottish Transport Awards. She has recently been awarded an MBE for services to Inclusive Urban Planning and elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland.

Drawing on her previous experience working in India, Singapore, England and Scotland, Daisy believes passionately in the importance of creating places that reflect and complement the communities that live in them. She is values-led in her approach and a passionate advocate for climate action and inclusive, healthy places.

A music aficionado, a bookworm and a linguist, Daisy spends her time enjoying the Scottish outdoors with her husband and two children. 

Liani is a transport planner and social value expert at Arup. She specialises in embedding outcome-focused approaches within policy, major programmes, and place-based strategies both in the UK and internationally. She has years of experience working across various geographies, supporting knowledge-sharing and dissemination of good practice for the implementation of more inclusive, people-centred and outcome-focused transport solutions. She was awarded the TPS bursary 2021 for her research paper in scenario planning and how it can be adapted to suit various contexts.

Membership

Isabelle is Head of Station Capacity Planning in Network Rail based in London. She coordinates Network Rail's TPS Professional Development Scheme and is a trained PDS mentor.

She joined Network Rail in 2008 after having worked in transport planning consultancy for 5 years beforehand.

Policy

As one of the first few who achieved TPP status through the senior route in 2009, Tom has been an active promotor of the Transport Planning Society and the Chartered Transport Planning Professional accreditation, for example as Reviewer and as PDS Mentor. He has also regularly organised and spoken at TPS events.

Tom has organised the annual Modelling World conference since 2006, and is a member of DfT’s Joint Analysis Development Panel. He is an editor of the Transportation journal, and an assessor for Innovate UK. Tom is employed as Regional Director UK & Europe at Veitch Lister, and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds.

Alexis has worked as a transport planner in various roles since 2006, and currently leads a Transport Development Management team at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council providing transport advice on planning applications. He recently led work on a series of masterplanning exercises across BCP, and was instrumental in developing BCP Council’s Parking Standards SPD.

Alexis is also a chartered member of the RTPI, and is very active in the South West region. He is currently the RTPI South West Junior Vice Chair and editor of Branchout.

Darren is an Associate Director in Strategy Funding and Appraisal team at SYSTRA. He has almost 20 years’ experience working in transport policy and strategy; developing and implementing transport strategies and infrastructure plans, and making the case for investment to improve regional connectivity. Prior to joining SYSTRA in 2018 he worked client side in a range of policy roles including for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Stockport Council.

Regions and Nations

James has actively promoted the benefits of good transport planning throughout his career. He believes that transport planners have a key role to play in many of the major social, economic, and environmental issues that the world faces, and the profession is well placed to help make the better world become a reality. He hopes to play a small role in this through the TPS Board and supporting the profession in a more hands-on approach.

His day job is being Director of Mobility Lab, a transport planning consultancy, and he has worked in a variety of engineering and transport strategy roles in the public and private sector. He has also organised (with many excellent volunteers) the annual Mobility Camp since its founding in 2018, and has guest lectured at the University of Westminster. He is also seeking the Chartered Transport Planning Professional accreditation, and is regularly a mentor for the TPS Bursary

ICE Representative

Penny's career went backwards through the project lifecycle starting in construction and ending up at Transport Planning. She started her career at Network Rail in Project Management roles working on Hitchin Flyover, York Rail Operating Centre and Training building and Leeds Station Southern Entrance. She then worked at TSP Projects (now Systra) as a Bridge Engineer where she gained the technical experience to get chartered with the ICE. Realising she was more interested in who was going over the bridges and why, rather than what held the bridges up, she started work as a Transport Planner at Atkins. She is now bringing all this experience and knowledge together in a role at Bristol City Council in their Transport team. Her projects include CRSTS schemes and the redevelopment of Temple Meads Station.

She sat on ICE's Fairness Inclusion and Respect Committee for several years, originally as the Graduate & Student Rep and culminating in a role as Vice Chair. Her proudest achievement on that panel was her involvement in the industry’s first every survey on racism which unfortunately found we have a long way to go. She is also a strong believer in increasing Dad's opportunity to take Parental leave and the significant impact this could have on the Gender Pay Gap.

Director of Skills/ Policy

Keith was Director of the MTRU consultancy and has over 30 years’ experience as a transport planner in a wide range of roles. A previous Chair of the TPS, he has been leading on policy issues including “Agenda for Change”.  In July 2015 he became TPS Director of Skills.

Co-opted Board Member - Accessibility and Diversity

Jim Morey is a freelance consultant engineer / planner who specialises in highways, transport and travel accessibility for persons with any kind of reduced mobility or access need.

Jim has spent over 30 years working (initially as a technician and then as an engineer) for a range of private consultancies and local authorities.

He has an MSc in Transport Planning & Engineering from the University of Southampton.

Liaison with Universities

Jonathan is a researcher at the Centre for Transport and Society, UWE Bristol. His research and publications have included autonomous vehicles and their interactions with pedestrians and cyclists, as well as looking at aspects of street design, with a particular focus on side road junctions, including projects with Sustrans, Transport Scotland and the Road Safety Trust. He is on the Executive Committee of the Bristol Walking Alliance and through Scientists for Cycling is on the Scientific Committee for Velo-city, hosted by Lisbon in 2021.

Jonathan has an MSc in Transport Planning from the University of the West of England.

TPS Account Director 

Jo is the Founder and Chief Executive of JFG Communications, a consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, political communications and diversity for the transport industry. As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), Jo is a transport professional and public affairs professional in equal measure. Recognised among the top 100 most influential women in Westminster, Jo has 18 years of experience in helping companies engage their stakeholders, build advocacy about what they do, and inform and influence public policy. Jo oversees the Business Development Manager Contract with TPS.

TPS Business Development Manager

Sarah is Head of Marketing and Operations at JFG Communications, a consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, political communications and diversity for the transport industry. As co-ordinator of the TPS Business Development Manager contract, Sarah is responsible for working with the various sub-committees including Communications, Policy and Membership, as well as providing news, job and event updates to the website and liaising with Stakeholder and Business Directory members.
