Objectives:

The purpose a WCHAR (Walking, Cycling and Horse-Riding Assessment and Review) is to facilitate theinclusion of all walking, cycling and horse-riding modes in the highway scheme development processfrom the earliest stage, enabling opportunities for new or improved facilities and their integration withthe local and national networks.

This could include the creation and/or improvement of facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and equestriansthat are separate from the highway.

WCHAR is intended to provide increased collaboration, interaction and engagement with keystakeholders.

National design guidance makes integrating green infrastructure into transport projects a key priory fordevelopment schemes. A WCHAR provides useful insights to all relevant stakeholders regardingappropriate measures to bright forward more sustainable development.
