Objectives:

Attending the five-day course will provide you with:

  • an understanding of UK highway design and its origins in safety research
  • an understanding of route choice, highway alignment design, and detailed design
  • an appreciation of the impact of transport infrastructure on the environment
  • an awareness of railway design and the contrast with highways
  • an awareness of constraints affecting airport infrastructure
  • an understanding of road construction and maintenance issues
  • comprehension of aspects of vehicle speed
  • an awareness of research into vehicle speeds and consistency measures

  • the use of mathematical formulae to design infrastructure alignments
  • the use of a Computer Design Package
