Hampshire County Council is one of the largest transport authorities in the UK. We spend around £100m on transport infrastructure every year (and this is growing). We developed plans and won funding for Stubbington Bypass, and walking and cycling networks in Whitehill & Bordon, which are now being delivered. We are currently working on plans to redevelop Gosport bus station among many, many other schemes.
Our radical new Local Transport Plan means it’s an exciting time to join our team and make a difference. The plan aims for carbon neutrality, thriving communities, and increased wellbeing for our residents.
We’re looking for six Transport Planners to help us expand our capacity.
Four roles would be in a new team, two helping to deliver a very large number of small transport schemes across the county using developer contributions and two helping developers comply with obligations on delivering travel plans. These travel plans and schemes will include improvements to our network for everyday journeys for residents by all modes, and incentives to travel by public transport and active modes.
As part of these roles you will get stuck into the detail, explore how the funds could be spent, engage with relevant stakeholders and multiple internal teams to check the schemes are feasible and supported, and write reports to get the schemes ready to handover for rapid delivery. You will help to develop new travel plan guidance and review travel plans submitted by developers against this. You will help monitor their progress and help them to comply with the guidance by sharing best practice, and details of local schemes and initiatives. You will need to be self-motivated and a team player with an eye for detail. You will need to be efficient, organised and able to support good working relationships with staff and external stakeholders.
Two new roles will be within our existing traded services team. You will assist with the development and delivery of transport projects that include studies and physical schemes (capital works). You will support internal and external clients to achieve their project outcomes and develop good professional relationships. You will use your project management skills to work with clients and develop smaller scale costed proposals and work programmes to deliver and support senior staff to develop bigger bids and proposals You will be self-motivated, able to conduct independent research, and write reports.
In return we can offer:
These are just some of the benefits of being a Hampshire County Council employee. For further information about the role, or to apply, please visit our website. Or for an informal discussion, please contact Nicola Waight, Team Leader on 03707 794339
