Take on a hugely influential and important leadership role in our Integrated Transport team

Hampshire is one of the largest transport authorities in the UK and is optimistic about the future. Its capital programme is expanding and exceeds £100m per annum and is set to double or greater in the next few years. Our emerging local transport plan is setting out a new and exciting agenda for transport. One which needs to deal with achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 whilst at the same time allowing Hampshire to thrive economically and socially.

We are looking for talented people who can look hard at what we have done and can help shape the culture and strategy we need to meet this challenge

We have a 2 year fixed term vacancy for a senior member of the integrated transport team. The successful postholder will be the client for most of our capital programme improvement schemes. This is a hugely influential and important leadership role. It means being responsible for leading a small team of transport planners/engineers who develop up our capital schemes during optioneering and feasibility design stages, and a much larger supply chain of consultants both internal and external. It also involves being aware of funding opportunities and bidding for funding to central Government or others.  You will need to have highly tuned political awareness, excellent programme and project management skills a strategic outlook but also an eye for the detail.

Hampshire has a set of values that we endeavour to aspire to and which we look for in new employees who want to work with us. We are committed to delivering the highest quality services that we can, that in doing so we really make a difference to the issues impacting our communities. We strive to improve and innovate and we work as a team where differences and diversity are seen as strengths. If these sound like the kind of values you have, then working for Hampshire might be right for you.

What we can offer you:

In return we can offer:

  • Opportunities to develop your skills and experience, informally, or formally. For suitable candidates Hampshire is almost unique in supporting paid masters’ degrees with appropriate study time given; up to degree level apprenticeships (including transport planning, project management; and the Transport Planning Society’s Professional Development scheme.
  • Flexible working arrangements such as part time hours, job shares, compressed fortnights, wrap-around school hours, and flexi-time.
  • Local Government Pension, and annual leave which increases over time
  • Opportunities to make a difference and receive support through staff networks for parents, carers, and people with protected characteristics.
  • The support of a wider team who will value you and what you achieve.

These are just some of the benefits of being a Hampshire County Council employee.
