Senior/Principal Consultant - Transport Planning

Job Description

The way in which we travel is changing, and the global pandemic has increased the rate of change so that modelling transport is now more challenging than ever. Future uncertainties such as the advent of Mobility as a Service and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles as well as better understanding of travel behaviour changes as a result of transport decarbonisation policy areas mean that traditional methods of modelling are becoming less effective in truly representing the way that people live, work and travel. Evolving methods such as activity and agent-based modelling are emerging as alternative ways of harnessing the insight that big data sources provide and translating this into tools that can help us plan for the future of travel. We are seeking to recruit a Senior/Principal Consultant to join our Strategic Planning discipline within our Transport Planning Business to help win and deliver projects as well as drive innovation. This is a full-time permanent role to be located in AECOM’s South East Transport Planning Offices. We are looking for individuals who are able to take ownership of their work to help deliver exciting projects and find optimal solutions to meet client and commercial needs. We undertake transport modelling spanning national, regional and local geographies as well as detailed micro-simulation. Our team undertakes research, develops tools and finds solutions. We use Big Data (e.g. Mobile Network and Google Maps API data) and apply statistical modelling, programming, operational research, and recognise artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to develop transport modelling tools as well as visualise transport data. We work collaboratively with colleagues across AECOM’s many disciplines, including planners, designers, engineers, and regeneration and environmental specialists. An ideal candidate will come from an analytical background, such as mathematics, statistics and econometrics, economics, geography, or engineering and will have experience in transport modelling including conventional and emerging transportation systems, demand modelling, agent-based modelling, activity-based demand modelling, statistical modelling, programming and visualising data.We value a combination of analytical and communication skills, with a creative and enthusiastic approach to problem-solving. We are seeking an individual with an in-depth appreciation of their chosen area with good knowledge of wider transport planning issues. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of ground-breaking and innovative projects for a wide variety of clients. Our current UK public sector clients include the Department for Transport, Transport for London and Highways England as well as a host of London boroughs and local authorities within England.  We operate a number of Frameworks from the team so have a really diverse range of projects to choose from.  We have proactively managed some of the UK’s most high-profile Transport Planning and infrastructure projects which are at the forefront of the Transport Planning industry.  These range from innovative use and application of emerging data sources through to close partnership working and research with universities and academia. We have an impressive portfolio of ongoing and recently completed projects, including:
