The Transport Planning discipline specialises in providing initial advice to public and private sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways and Transportation including vehicle, public transport, pedestrian and cycle infrastructure design, masterplan layout reviews and the design of mitigation measures. The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects, contributing to the success of the UK based teams.

All Technicians are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Engineering Technician and Incorporated status, internal and external training will be provided.

A typical week would include:

  • Your principal role will be a design technician providing support to the Transport Planning team producing primarily outline Transport and Highways Design Drawings to support Planning Applications.

  • You can expect to be active on a number of projects and client accounts at any given time.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Ideally you will hold an HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, however this is not essential if you can demonstrate sufficient experience in highway design.

  • You will be proficient in the use of one or more of the following; the design of highways using PDS (or similar software packages) together with experience in applying Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance. Ability to produce drawings in AutoCAD is essential. Knowledge of AutoTrack, PDS Sign and PDS Line software would be an advantage. You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.                                                                                            

  • The ability to design layouts of a variety of junctions, car parks and service yards is required. A good understanding of technical design guidance and standards, such as DMRB and MfS, would be an advantage.                                                              

  • A Consultancy or Development background
