Transport Strategy Manager

Job Description

Are you seeking an opportunity to influence long-term transport strategy development in a rapidly growing city region?  We are seeking an experienced Transport Strategy Officer who is passionate about putting their skills and knowledge into practical effect to join our Transport Strategy Directorate.

As a Transport Strategy Officer, you will be involved in a range of exciting projects within the Directorate to help us to deliver our Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy (see www.tfgm.com/2040) and to respond effectively to the opportunities presented by Greater Manchester’s ambitious plans for economic prosperity, environmental improvement and devolved power.  You will be joining a well-established team that will provide you with opportunities to further develop your skills and experience.

The work you will be leading on will help us to answer some of the big questions we are currently facing, such as:  How can we best deliver integrated land use and transport planning? How will land use planning decisions affect future demand for transport? How might changes in travel trends influence transport needs? How can we maximise the benefits of major new national infrastructure, such as HS2? How do we develop a balanced, long-term transport delivery pipeline to meet the wide range of economic, social and environmental challenges we will face?

You will have an active interest in transport planning and place making, a relevant honours degree and have a strong appreciation of local and national transport and planning policy.  You will also be enthusiastic and adaptable, with proven experience of working with multiple stakeholders to help scope, deliver and communicate transport studies which support the development and delivery of transport, land use and environmental strategies.  Experience in transport planning, strategy and policy development work is essential.

The salary range for this role is £33,965 to £45,646.  Salary on appointment will be dependent upon your skills and experience.

In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

  • Free Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

If you believe you can meet our requirements in this challenging role we would really like to hear from you!
