Technician, Transport Planning/Traffic Support - Liverpool

Job Description

About the Role

As one of the world’s leading engineering, professional services and technical consultancy firms, at WSP, we’re passionate about the big questions. And big answers, naturally. For us that’s all about reaching beyond the expected to do work that’ll make a profound impact felt long into the future.

WSP’s Transport team in Liverpool is growing quickly, working closely with colleagues in our highway and development teams, plus with other disciplines and offices.  We have a range of exciting projects from town centre redevelopments, masterplans and corridor studies through to parking studies, transport assessments and strategic analysis of scheme proposals. Our client base is expanding and is made up of a mix of private and public sector organisations.

A key part of our offer evolves around being able to provide clients and co-professionals with clear, concise technical and non-technical inputs to our reports, presentations and project work. We are looking for an experienced (ideally with at least 2 years post-qualification working experience) person to be able to supply the team with a range of skills that support delivery of our varied workload. We aren’t just looking for someone to turn up and be told what to do though – we see this position as an exciting opportunity for someone with creativity and ideas to play an important role in taking the team forward and to make a real positive difference to people’s lives, both locally and across the UK.

Most of our work will be in the North West of England, however a willingness or interest in working further afield when needed would be helpful. While much of the role will be office based a willingness and ability to visit sites and feed into wide team discussion is required. This role is one where we see there is significant opportunity for the person to grow their skills, experience and knowledge as the team continues to expand, with support and advice from a range of experienced professionals in the team.

About You

We are looking for someone who has existing knowledge of traffic and transport work, in particular experience of concept scheme designs using tools such as AutoCAD, respecting and understanding design rules and regulations.

We'd love to hear from you if you have experience and interest in:

  • Development planning related work, providing drawings related to matters such as visibility splays, junction layouts, traffic regulation orders and road arrangements;
  • Graphics skills to help present our work in a clear manner to clients – helping shape and layout important reports and presentations, including designing bespoke documents to portray our work in the best and clearest manner possible;
  • Providing resource to assist in matters such as on-site observations, feeding findings into the team and resultant proposals;
  • Undertaking occasional on-site surveys – for example ‘parking beat’ surveys or ‘sample traffic counts’ for projects;
  • Ideally some knowledge and ability to use basic transport modelling tools, and some understanding of the principles of traffic management would be an advantage;
  • Where appropriate representing the business at meetings, plus liaising with clients and our internal teams;
  • As the team expands we see this role as developing into one where you will have responsibility for both local staff resource and managing team liaison with our international design centres.
  • Ideally you will have a genuine interest in the built environment, urban transport matters and sustainability/environmental matters.
