Principal Transport Planner, Newcastle

Job Description

This role sits in the Newcastle Transportation team and supports the operation of the transportation business across offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Scotland, with support to the wider UK and International business. The Transportation team covers both public and private sector clients with a healthy existing and forward workload in both areas. The opportunity will primarily help support existing and growing workloads for a range of regional clients including local authorities, government bodies, Highways England, LEPs and enterprise partnerships and private developers. We support our clients to understand how projects should be identified, designed and delivered to gain maximum impact and to achieve positive outcomes. You will be joining a fast growing and creative team with an emphasis on the following: 1. Working on a range of public and private sector projects from transport strategies, major scheme development, options appraisal, business cases and demand forecasting across all modes of travel – highways, public transport, walking and cycling. 2. Acting as task leader on business case and appraisal projects.3. Active Project Management of your projects with responsibility for other project team members.4. Shaping transport investment to facilitate the growth agenda; this would require transport model interface and appraisal capabilities5. Interpretation of data and information, including preparation of technical reports and proposals for clients.6. Fostering client relationships and identifying work winning opportunities.

About You

Requirements:

  • A degree in a numerate, transport or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of transport policy, appraisal issues and techniques.
  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to deliver client satisfaction and commercial success.
  • Experience in explaining appraisal and business case outputs to a non-technical audience.
  • An excellent understanding of current and innovative strategic transport planning thinking.
  • The ability to independently devise study methodology and apply in a non-transport context.
  • Knowledge and application of Green Book principles, WebTAG transport appraisal and business case development.
  • The ability to understand the inputs to transports models and how resulting outputs can be used creatively to underpin a range of investment decisions.
  • Clear and concise communication, being able to convey complex issues and communicate persuasively, is essential – you will need to demonstrate you can produce high quality documentation and reports tailored to client requirements, with clear justification of conclusions.
  • You must be able to understand context, and interpret and clarify client requirements so that appropriate solutions are developed, and appropriately explained to clients, colleagues and co−professionals.
