Responsibilities

As a seasonal and part-time role, typically during school term time from March to October, this is ideally suited to someone who is looking for a little extra money around other commitments, or a semi-retired individual.

You will assist the delivery of ~850 traffic counts in the Southwest region for a flagship Government traffic survey contract, by:  

  • Installing Video Cameras at predetermined locations within the Wiltshire area using the supplied equipment by following a Site Assessment Form. 
  • Process survey data using your own PC or Laptop and supplied SD Cards, External Hard Drive and USB Sticks.  
  • Manage your Count Schedule in Excel form and make amendments where required. 
  • Manage your workload and equipment by ideally working 2 weeks ahead of time. 
  • Own a Smart Phone to take site photos and be able send via WhatsApp. 
  • Follow strict Health & Safety guidelines and be prepared to wear supplied Hi-Vis PPE at all times. 
  • Be able to check your emails daily for any changes to your schedule.  
  • Undertake specific in-house training to allow you to work near live carriageways and follow site specific instructions.  

Your Team 

  • The Data Collection Team works on a variety of projects, but your focus will be on a Government flagship traffic survey contract, the Department for Transport National Road Traffic Census of Great Britain.  
  • Other clients are Local Authorities and internal customers using the WSP Traffic Survey Framework.  
  • You will primarily report to the DfT Survey Manager, based in Exeter.  

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid full driving licence and own reliable car. 
  • Be of a practical nature and mind, due to on-site work. 
  • Possess good IT skills and have knowledge and experience of Excel. 
  • Have good written and spoken communication skills.  
  • Can work flexibly with the understanding that some weekend work may be necessary.  
  • Value the importance of achieving and maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing.
