Senior Evaluation Officer, Research & Monitoring Unit (Places for Everyone)

Job Description

Senior Evaluation Officer, Research & Monitoring Unit

(Places for Everyone)

£28,499 per annum

(Ref: SUS3738)

Up to 37.5 hours per week, we are happy to discuss working hours to suit individual circumstances.

Base: Hybrid working with base in either Edinburgh/ Glasgow/ or Newcastle hub.

About the Role

At Sustrans we are proud of our commitment to creating happier places and healthier lives for everyone. Join us as a Senior Evaluation Officer, where you will use both your research and project management skills, to work on a range of exciting monitoring, evaluation, analysis and research projects within our Research and Monitoring Unit (RMU). Your work will produce evidence on active travel that is transparent and authoritative, helping to shape policy, practice and behaviour across the UK.

Sustrans’ Research and Monitoring Unit is a leading centre of excellence in active travel research, monitoring and evaluation. Our team work closely with partners from across the UK to ensure we have a clear understanding of the impact of Sustrans’ work and the wider context of the benefits of active travel.

You have a fantastic opportunity to help us make a difference by joining our team as a Senior Evaluation Officer working on the Places for Everyone programme, Sustrans’ grant fund for active travel infrastructure in Scotland.

Enjoying a diverse workload, you will lead a small team in supporting Places for Everyone partners, providing guidance and delivering monitoring and evaluation on a range of active travel infrastructure projects, particularly in Edinburgh, to help demonstrate their impact.

Additionally, you will join a team evaluating the Places for Everyone programme. You will contribute by conducting programme wide analysis and supporting research to evaluate and report the contribution towards Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Framework and Sustrans’ strategic priority of Liveable Cities and Towns for Everyone.

You will be responsible for delivering monitoring and evaluation to the expected standards. This includes project management of time and budgets for yourself and a small team (3-5 people) with the support of an Evaluation Manager.

About You

We are looking for excellent communicators and creative thinkers with the ability to manage and motivate people, getting the best out of others. You will use your exceptional analytical skills and draw on your previous experience of both project management and a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research methods to apply them to real world projects.

So, if you have a track record of scoping, designing, budgeting, and reporting on research and evaluation projects, this could be the role for you.

Ideally you will have an understanding of the benefits of active and sustainable travel.
