Principal Sustainable Transportation Planner

Job Description

Principal Sustainable Transportation Planner

London

£47,352 - £51,444

Ref: HCAA00849

Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion, and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity, and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Based within the Climate, Homes and Economy Directorate, our Streetscene Service ensures Hackney is clean, safe, and accessible for residents, businesses, and visitors. We are now looking for a Principal Sustainable Transport Planner to lead on our Sustainable Transport behaviour change initiatives, which include our Sustainable Travel to School, Workplace Travel Planning, Zero Emissions Network, Travel Awareness and Travel Plan monitoring programmes. Hackney is recognised as a leading authority in Sustainable Transport, and this is an opportunity to work on cutting edge projects that address some of the biggest challenges facing our city.

Your skills gained in your previous employment along with your experience, your knowledge of sustainable transport planning and your ability to manage teams effectively are what we are looking for. You will have good and effective communication, report writing and interpersonal skills, and will be proactive in adding value to the service delivered. You will be able to project manage effectively and will be able to work on your own initiative whilst being part of an active and dynamic team. You will help to manage the work of the team and will have several officers reporting to you.

With an excellent understanding of environmental and sustainability policy and legislation, you will also have the ability to communicate effectively with service users e.g. negotiations, presenting evidence or advice in a public forum within Hackney’s diverse community; liaise with other internal directorates and external agencies to communicate project objectives and/or source information required; understand plans and drawings and other relevant technical information related to Sustainable Transport projects and be willing to attend meetings or undertake work outside normal working hours’ e.g. evening meetings.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

If you want to work in a place where you can represent our values so we achieve the best for our residents, please click on the apply button below.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge, and experience.

Closing date for applications: 25 May 2022.

Interview date: TBC.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included, and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

The Council has a dedicated employment support service (Hackney Works), which offers Hackney residents guidance in relation to applying for jobs.
