The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. We are also working closely with our clients to adapt to the evolving Covid-19 environment. Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy, modelling and research projects throughout the transportation sector. We are at the forefront of national and international policy making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting the development of cutting-edge technology in the transport sector.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base. With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business, we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The role:

To be based in the Bristol office, which is part of the South West & Wales Transport Planning Practice, we are recruiting at all grades and for all specialisms and would like to discuss our exciting range of opportunities with prospective candidates.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to contribute to our high performing team, working on projects for our unparalleled client base in the region and nationally. Atkins are the Framework Consultants for West of England Combined Authority (Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Bath & North East Somerset Council), Wiltshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council, meaning that you will have the opportunity to support the development of your local multi-modal transport systems. Within the wider business we also contribute to projects at a national scale for Network Rail, the Department for Transport, Transport for Wales, and National Highways

As part of the wider Atkins multidisciplinary design and management team, our Transport Planners provide a key role in the conception, development and delivery of transport solutions that enable real change at a local level for transport users and society.

Our work:

Our South West & Wales Transport Planning Practice is home to a team of 35 professionals delivering exciting projects across the full range of Transport Planning capabilities including:

  • Public transport corridor and interchange improvements including mobility hubs.
  • Active travel, public realm, and street design.
  • Data analytics.
  • Transport modelling and economic, environmental, and social impact appraisal and business case.
  • Carbon based Transport Strategy and policy development for local authorities and Sub-National Transport Bodies.
  • Development Planning and Master Planning for new strategic developments.

The Candidates:

We have an exciting range of opportunities across disciplines and levels of experience. Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate the following commensurate with their level of experience:

  • The principles of the Transport Appraisal Process.
  • How local, national, and regional policy influences, and is influenced by the transport system.
  • Best practice and guidance for the design of transport systems.
  • The collection, analysis, and manipulation of a wide range of data.
  • The preparation of reports and materials for clients and stakeholders.

Successful applicants will have:

  • A range of relevant technical skills and behavioural competencies.
  • A relevant planning, economics, geography, engineering degree or similar.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of current UK transport policy.
  • A passion for transportation.
