Perspectives on Urban Design, Dublin, 14 March 2018

The objective of this event is to provide transport planners with an insight into the different perspectives that influence urban design. The presenters will address the issues faced in Urban Design through the following lenses:

• Complete Streets - Complete streets is a transportation policy and design approach that requires streets to be planned, designed, operated, and maintained to enable safe, convenient and comfortable travel and access for users of all ages and abilities regardless of their mode of transportation.
• Sustainable safety - The principles of Sustainable Safety were developed in 1992, and in the following years in the Netherlands. They underpin all road design and the adherence to those principles has contributed to the Netherlands leading record in road safety and are at the core of the National Cycling Manual.
• Universal Design - Universal Design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability. It is at the core of the National Disability Authority's (NDA) Centre for Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD) work on the built environment.
