TPS announces annual Bursary competition research projects
The Transport Planning Society continues to encourage research through its annual Bursary competition. This year, TPS members have been asked to respond to the following question:
“How can transport plans and/or transport projects be designed and delivered to maximise social impact, to enable thriving people and places?”
We received a record number of submissions this year, and following a careful selection process, four people have been chosen to prepare a research paper as follows (in no particular order):
- Role of micromobility in supporting night-time economies – Jolyon Cox, TfL
- How does the improvement of bus services affect material deprivation? Luke Dorman, Steer
- Beyond A–B: How Vision-Led Transport Planning Can Create Thriving People and Places, a review of ‘S’lower Marsh, Waterloo – Kate Grey, WSP
- The Role of the Fflecsi Bus System in Enabling Welsh Communities to Thrive – Evangeline Rees, Bridgend County Borough Council
Each person will receive a bursary of £500 to support their research. They’ll also work with a mentor with extensive experience in transport planning. At the start of next year, each will present their results to a technical panel so an overall winner can be chosen.
Our bursary scheme remains a great way to develop new research, build links and share experience across the profession.
