Senior Transport Planner (Development)

Job Description

Senior Transport Planner (Development)

£39,543 - £44,373

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Transport Planner to assist in managing and progressing transportation planning matters. You will be involved in some of the largest development sites in London, directly contributing to development of key centres in the Borough, from Shoreditch to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and surrounding neighbourhoods, ensuring development is high quality and along with our vision for the area.

The successful candidate will support the innovative development control function by assessing a wide range of planning applications, whilst delivering the statutory and legal obligations in a customer-focused manner. Through ensuring that the correct information is available for you to scrutinise the impacts of developments, you will provide written consultation observations in relation to highways and transport matters.

The role affords the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity as well as skills of negotiation and persuasion to resolve issues, devise innovative outcomes and to negotiate financial contributions from developers, which will bring benefit to the community. Working closely with applicants, you will help shape future developments in the borough. On occasion, you will attend planning sub-committees to respond to queries and to deputise for the Principal Transport Planner when required.

You will need to demonstrate report writing skills, knowledge of transport policy, a capacity for interpreting planning policies, and excellent verbal communication skills. You will also have shown confidence engaging with and managing the expectations of stakeholders including politicians. You must possess a relevant degree and have a qualification in Transportation Planning. Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body is also desirable.

Hackney is one of the UK's highest performing local authorities, serving one of London's best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and Investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

If the opportunity of working here excites you, please apply.

We are open to receiving applications from candidates who are looking for exposure or development in this area or recent graduates with relevant qualifications. This role may suit applicants who perhaps do not strictly meet all of the criteria on the person specification but have relevant knowledge and transferable experience to fulfil the role and a demonstrated aptitude in learning.

There will be a number of questions relating to the post. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience. You are not required to submit a supporting statement or CV.

Closing date for applications: 08 March 2020

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
