The AECOM UK Development Infrastructure team is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Engineer to expand its current team profile and capability. The person will either be based in St Albans, London Aldgate, Basingstoke, or Norwich offices.

Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the Senior Infrastructure Engineer will play an important role within the London and South East team including overseeing junior team members working to support with the delivery of projects. This role will suit an excellent communicator and team player and will provide the opportunity for the candidate to work closely with private and public sector Clients of all types and across all sectors locally, regionally and globally as well as other internal and external multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced environment. The multi-disciplinary nature of the UK Development Infrastructure team means that we lead on a variety of projects from inception (due diligence, master planning support and scheme viability - including drainage, flooding, utilities and highways), through to detailed design, value engineering, design delivery, project management, execution and handover.

The ideal candidate will have a sound general knowledge of Development Infrastructure design principles which can be successfully brought to bear on these projects.

 

As a Senior Development Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

  • Have knowledge and experience of S278 and S38 schemes including detailed highway design;

  • Have knowledge and experience of S104 schemes including detailed drainage design and hydraulic modelling;

  • Develop technical drawings to support S38, S278 and S104 submissions;

  • Undertake a variety of technical Assessments for new development;

  • Manage and undertake the gathering and review of planning data;

  • Explain technical concepts to others including more junior colleagues and Clients;

  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of presentations and present information to internal and external groups;

  • Manage small (or elements of larger) projects, managing the production of analysis and associated outputs, ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to an excellent standard;

  • Provide updates to project managers/directors in terms of the progress of tasks in line with programmes;

  • Provide direction and technical advice to junior project team members, taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential;

  • Mentoring junior members of staff and developing team spirit and collaborative behaviours.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering or similar;

  • Suitable experience in the preparation and/or review of highways and drainage design;

  • Suitable experience in the building of and/or review of hydraulic models using Micro Drainage;

  • Suitable experience in AutoCAD, Civils 3D and/or MX/PDS software;

  • Experience in traffic signage and road marking for highways schemes;

  • Fluent in the use of Excel or similar packages to analyse data;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Suitable knowledge of relevant design standards including DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, local road standards and relevant national planning policy;

  • Ability to handle the project management of smaller tasks and projects, including cost control, project schedules and liaising with and presenting to Clients;

  • Experience or a desire to mentor and supervise more junior colleagues.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (desirable);

  • Experience in using GIS software such as MapInfo or ArcGIS (desirable);

  • Experience of liaising with Clients and stakeholder engagement (desirable);

  • Familiarity with aspects of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (and other industry standard legislative guidance documents such as Sewers for Adoption etc.) and experience in applying guidance (desirable);

  • Full UK drivers licence.
