Senior Transport Planning Consultant – Strategic Model Development

Job Description

Our Transport Planning Model Development and Research team based in our St Albans office is looking to recruit an experienced and driven Senior Transport Planner to help the team grow further. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a strong and accomplished Transport Planning team and to work on leading modelling projects which are at the forefront of the Transport Planning industry. This experienced Transport Modeller will join a 25+ persons strong Transport Planning Team in St Albans which is embedded into the 100+ professional Transportation team in the town centre office. St Albans is one of our central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more.

Examples of these transport planning projects include the development of innovative and evidence-based techniques to process mobile network data to understand multimodal travel demand, using big data and data fusion techniques to fill in gaps in the data and improve accuracy of modelling results, and developing bespoke tools used for visualisation of data or forecasting. We are planning to expand our knowledge and skills in similar emerging areas over the next 18 months.

 

The Model Development and Research team primarily works in the following areas, providing both breadth and depth expertise within the Transport Planning discipline:

  • multi-modal demand matrix development, increasingly using mobile phone data and other electronic data sources;

  • strategic highway and public transport network models and calibration;

  • multi-modal demand models (including tours, land-use transport interaction (LUTI) and parking models);

  • statistical analysis, discrete choice modelling, and parameter estimation;

  • forecasting, transport scheme appraisal and business case development; and

  • research (travel behaviour, data analysis and application, new methods, contributing to guidance).

 

Minimum Requirements

  • As a Senior Consultant you will be expected to mentor and supervise graduates and develop, apply and share your knowledge

  • You should have the ability to handle the project management of smaller projects, including proposals, cost control and client liaison

  • You will have an analytical mind and background

  • You will have knowledge and experience in transport modelling and forecasting

  • You have used and have good knowledge of one or more of the following: SATURN, Emme, Cube, Visum (SATURN experience would be a particular advantage)

  • You need to have strong technical and report writing skills

  • You should be able to explain technical concepts to others, especially our graduates

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution such as CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE

  • A BSc in a numerate subject or an MSc in Transport Planning or related subject
