Principal Development Transport Planner

Job Description

AECOM is currently recruiting for a Principal Transport Planner to join our growing Development Planning team located across our London Campus. The Development Planning and Engineering Team provide transport services throughout the development lifecycle from site feasibility and due diligence through to planning applications, implementation and monitoring. This role is a full time permanent role to be located in Aldgate Tower, London, on the Hammersmith Line near the Aldgate East Station. The London Aldgate office is one of our central hubs for our global consultancy services, and we work closely with our colleagues in St. Albans in Hertfordshire, Basingstoke in Hampshire, and Croydon in South West London. AECOM’s Development Planning and Engineering Team aspire to be the consultant of choice for authorities and developers wishing to realise their vision for the built environment.

The Development Planning Team specialise in spatial planning, masterplanning and planning applications. From initial site identification and due diligence we prepare feasibility studies and support the development of masterplans. We then go on to prepare supporting transport documents for planning applications and post planning negotiate with local authority bodies and work to discharge conditions and prepare highway designs for implementation. Our Team serves both a buoyant internal to AECOM and external market and we are involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients both in the UK and overseas.

 

As a Principal Development Transport Planner / Principal Development Planning Consultant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of Access Strategies, Transport Scoping Studies, Statements & Assessments, Travel Plans and preliminary infrastructure designs.

  • Work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals throughout the development life cycle; providing services from site feasibility through to project completion.

  • Managing projects on a day to day basis

  • Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and that is managed to programme and budget.

  • Complete junction and spreadsheet modelling and other transport related activities.

  • Representing AECOM at technical meetings.

  • Overseeing data collection and undertaking site visits as appropriate.

  • Data handling and manipulation using MS Office products.

  • Preparing supporting drawings and diagrams.

  • Client management and work winning.

  • Preparing bids and assisting in the preparation of major bids and tenders as part of a wider bid team.

  • Overseeing, supporting and reviewing the work of junior members of staff and their professional development.

  • Line management of staff within the team and responsibility for their personal development.

  • Producing feasibility and preliminary designs for traffic and infrastructure works related to new developments.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • The ability and willingness to contribute to the company objective of expanding the transport planning business across the south-east.

  • An in depth knowledge of and working experience implementing the principles of transport planning.

  • Proven experience leading the preparation of development related Transport Assessments, with some wider experience in policy implementation, modelling and technical design.

  • Demonstrable ability to manage transport planning commissions including the production of transport planning reports and technical notes.

  • Experience developing fee proposals.

  • Working knowledge using or managing the use of relevant transport modelling packages e.g. Junctions (ARCADY/PICADY), LINSIG, TRANSYT, micro-simulation and strategic modelling packages. Ability to work unsupervised, both leading and/or within a project team.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and provide a level of supervision to more junior staff.

  • Ability to be the transport lead on a commission responsible for providing transport input to masterplans and delivery of transport documentation to support projects.

  • Ability to work unsupervised, leading a piece of work or working within a project team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to communicate well at all levels.

  • Excellent numerical, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • The ability to communicate technical concepts and mentor and support more junior staff.

  • High level of competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel and Word).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics, economics or similar.

  • Post graduate qualification in transportation, planning or a related subject would be beneficial.

  • Professional Membership and qualification from an appropriate institution (e.g. CIHT, TPS etc) or on route to gaining chartered status.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator preferred.
