Senior Transport Planning Consultant - Urban Space

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Senior Transport Planner into the Urban Space team of our Transport Planning Business in either the St Albans (Hertfordshire) or London Aldgate offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of transport modelling including urban micro-simulation projects for a wide variety of clients. This Senior Transport Planner will report to an Associate Director within a team collaborative and open office environment. A key part of this role is winning and delivering work as well as providing leadership, mentoring and technical advice for aspiring team members. As such, this Senior Urban Space Transport Planning Consultant will need to have experience of traffic and transport modelling and transport planning.

 

St Albans is one of our central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more. London Aldgate is one of our major hubs for our global consultancy services, and working closely with our colleagues in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, as well as other offices; and is on the Metropolitan Line near the Aldgate East Station.

Our Transport Planning teams plan and evaluate future transport schemes, forecast demand and revenue, develop business cases, undertake economic appraisal and market analysis, as well as look at the relationships between spatial planning and transport. We undertake transport modelling at a national and regional level right down to detailed micro-simulation where individual roads, public transport systems and crowd movements are analysed.

 

AECOM has a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams and a global reach and diversified market penetration, through which it is associated with some very prestigious projects of global acclaim, such as-London 2012, Glasgow 2014, Rio 2016, Qatar 2022, HS2 etc. Our clients include national and local transport authorities such as the UK Department of Transport and Transport for London, major sporting organisations such as the London Olympic Delivery Authority, private developers of land and transport facilities as well as overseas institutions such as the European Commission. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques, applying a range of specialist software.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of pedestrian modelling software such as Legion, Massmotion, Viswalk etc.

  • Familiarity with NR and LUL’s model development and audit processes, and will have in-depth experience of significant model development

  • Experience using Legion

  • Experience and understanding of other transport modelling software including one or more SATURN, CUBE, EMME, VISSIM, VISUM, TUBA.

  • Experience of presenting to large audiences

  • Project management (delivering large/medium projects in pedestrian modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget)

  • Experience of line management and small to medium team management

  • Supervision of workload and support to junior staff

  • Business Development and proposal preparation

  • Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision

  • Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard

  • Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the team’s and company’s profile

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree/Masters qualification in an analytical subject (e.g. mathematics, economics, engineering).

  • Membership of a relevant professional chartered institute or near to achieving accreditation
