Senior / Principal Transport Planner

Job Description

Wood is seeking to expand and develop its existing successful Transport Planning team in London based at Canary Wharf. We are looking for a dynamic team player to support the development of the Transport, Planning and Highways business and grow their career at Wood. Key private and public sector clients include organisations such as Crown Commercial Services, The World Bank, Homes England, National Grid, and a wide range of Local Authorities / London Boroughs and private developers.  We also work with a number of UK airports. The workload is extremely varied covering all aspects of the transport agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the team you will be involved in the management of projects and client relationships and the preparation of proposals and bids.  You will also guide and review the work of more junior staff.

As the workload is diverse, we are interested in hearing from candidates who have an interest in:

  • Preparation of Transport Assessments and Travel Plans
  • Sustainable transport projects;
  • Network modelling: multi-modal, traffic and micro-simulation models;
  • Transport economics;
  • Highway design;
  • Development control and regeneration projects;
  • Preparation of Transport chapters for Environmental Assessments.

Role Requirements

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Transport Planning, Engineering, Town Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • You will have around 5-8 years’ experience in transport planning or a related discipline to have the skills and knowledge required to undertake this role successfully.
  • You will have either have been awarded or nearing Chartered or Incorporated status.
  • Excellent analytical skills and report writing skills.

The work undertaken by the team is extremely varied and therefore candidates with either a range of skills and experience or particular specialisms will be considered. Experience in most/all of the following is desirable:

  • Management of small to medium sized projects;
  • Variety of experience on highway, public transport, walking and cycling projects;
  • Technical knowledge of the development of highway schemes from inception to delivery including both preliminary and detail designs;
  • Preparation of Transport Assessments, including junction modelling;
  • Preparation of fee proposals;
  • Local Junction (LinSig/ Junctions9), Microsimulation (VISSIM) and/ or Strategic Modelling.
