A Transport Planner is required to join an established and highly experienced transport team in Guildford, Southampton or Basingstoke. The local transport team offers clients a wide range of multi-disciplinary services including development planning work, site appraisals, transport assessments, master planning, public transport studies, transport modelling and public consultation, and is complemented by our other offices nationally, including development planning teams in Basingstoke, Southampton and London.

The successful candidate will be working within a highly skilled Transport Planning team. Our team specialises in providing advice to private sector and local authority clients on access, transportation and infrastructure issues and supporting development and infrastructure proposals through the planning process. This will cover a broad range of residential, commercial and mixed use development across small sites to major new strategic growth opportunities.This role will have the opportunity to work with other local teams on e.g. business cases, modelling and transport policy and strategy projects.

The role presents an excellent opportunity to progress your career and work on a wide range of regionally, nationally and internationally based development planning projects.

A typical week would include:

  1. Working on a mix of private and public sector projects to support and inform the development of policies, strategies and planning applications for a range of development sites or infrastructure proposals.
  2. Assisting with scoping of client requirements for Transport Planning projects, and specification of related multi-disciplinary tasks
  3. Skills transfer to junior team members
  4. Reviewing technical delivery and liaising with local highway authorities to achieve desired client outcomes
  5. Contributing to our process of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing relating to Transport Planning across our national transport planning business
  6. Fostering client relationships and identifying work winning opportunities

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a numerate, transport or related discipline
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Up to date knowledge on latest transport policies and legislations, design standards and planning process applicable to the UK.
  • Experience of standard transport modelling software including Junctions 8 / 9, LinSig, TRANSYT, and micro-simulation modelling software
  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to deliver client satisfaction and commercial success
  • Good written and verbal communication skills especially experience in explaining transport assessment outputs to a non-technical audience
  • In-depth experience in delivering transport assessments and statements and associated documents in support of planning applications
  • Ability to independently devise study methodology and apply in a non-transport context

Desirable Skills:

  • Transport related MSc
  • Chartered status or equivalent with a relevant institution
  • Experience of working with strategic models and the outputs from these models
