We are currently recruiting a Senior Transport Planner (Development Planning) to provide support to the Development Planning team and to act in the capacity as Project Manager on small projects as required. Following a number of recent project appointments for private developers, we are now looking to grow our Development Planning team in our Basingstoke, Southampton or Guildford office where we have an expanding transport planning team offering a range of services to public and private sector clients. The requirement is for a Senior Transport Planner to work on and assist in leading a range of Development Planning projects. This role would suit an experienced Transport/Development Planner who has developed a strong technical base and gained some initial experience in project management, who now wishes to take the opportunity to work closer with our clients and take a greater level of responsibility on project management and overall responsibility of the projects. It will allow you to build experience of customer liaison and project management and mentoring whilst developing your own skills. 

A typical week would include:

  • Prepare high quality technical notes and reports; e.g.: feasibility studies; Transport Assessments, Travel Plans etc
  • Manage small projects to quality, cost and time
  • Provide clear advice to clients and members of project teams
  • Line Management of junior staff
  • Assist the Divisional Manager with providing career development support to team members
  • Deliver to agreed personal targets
  • Keep up to date with developments in areas of professional expertise
  • Actively contribute towards other duties across the Business Unit e.g. :health & safety, quality, training, Client feedback etc
  • Engage with more senior colleagues to develop scope of work, timescales and budget expectations
  • Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients.

 

About You

Demonstration of your experience in a development/transport planning occupation, in the private sector would be expected with evidence of developing responsibilities within this career. This should include personal experience of producing Transport Assessments plus capability in one or more of the following areas: Travel Plans, Junction Modelling, Development Control, Strategic and local policy. This a permanent role with excellent career prospects for an enthusiastic person. 

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • First degree
  • MSc Transport Planning desirable, although not essential
  • Ideally Chartered Professional (CEng, MRTPI, TPP or CMILT) status (desirable)
  • Must be proficient in Word and Excel; ideally understand/have experience of Macros etc.

Plus a selection of the following skills/experience:

  • Familiarity with manual for Streets and DMRB requirements
  • Traffic Data Analysis
  • Masterplanning
  • Transport Assessment
  • Travel Planning and Smarter Choices
  • Planning Policies
  • Conceptual highway design
  • Street and Place design e.g.; Manual for Streets
  • Junction Modelling (LinSig, Transyt, ARCADY, PICADY)
  • Microsimulation e.g.: PARAMICS, VISSIM
  • Must be an excellent communicator, orally and in the written form
  • Client facing and ability to interact with fellow professionals
  • Able to work under minimum supervision
  • Confident in advising/negotiating with clients and fellow team members
  • Analyse and solve complex transport issues
  • Able to accurately interpret results and create sustainable solutions
  • Able to structure and compose reports to a high quality.
