Assistant Transport Planner, Cardiff

About the Role

An Assistant Transport Planner is required to join our Cardiff transport team. The successful candidate will work as part of the transportation team, with the objective of successfully delivering a range of transportation planning projects for a range of public and private sector clients. The candidate would specifically need proven skills across a broad range of areas including transport planning, development planning, travel planning and travel behaviour, and transportation studies.

Core Functions:

You will be able to demonstrate a range of technical skills covering aspects such as transport policy and strategy, feasibility studies, option assessment and business cases.  You can expect to be involved on a number of projects at any given time, so the ability to manage competing priorities is essential.

You will need to be able to:

  • Work on a wide range of projects required by our clients, and ensuring the delivery of these projects both to a high standard and to project deadlines.
  • Assist with preparing transport strategies, travel planning and master planning commissions,
  • Work with the other members of the transport planning team and other office disciplines if required to deliver work required by the client.

About You

Qualifications and Work Experience: 

The candidate should possess the following:

  • Degree in a relevant spatial, engineering or numerical subject,
  • Relevant experience in transportation planning The following skills are essential:
    • Numerical ability and capability in data analysis and use of MS Excel.           
    • Ability to produce concise and accurate technical reports in English, under minimal supervision
    • Experience in the use of junction modelling software, including PICADY, ARCADY, LINSIG or TRANSYT.
    • Ability to show initiative to work independently.
    • Ability to be innovative, a good team player willing to support others, a problem solver and able to work under pressure to deliver within very tight timescales.
    • Flexibility to work in a variety of locations and commissions.
    • Up to date knowledge on latest transport policies and legislations, design standards and planning process within the UK.
    • Competence with presentations to clients and peers at a personal and formal level

The following skills/qualifications are desirable:

  • Working towards Chartered Engineer/TPP status;
  • Post-graduate degree in Transportation Planning or other relevant subject;
  • Experience of traffic engineering and modelling;
  • Competence in GIS techniques; and
  • Full and clean driving license.

If not already achieved, the candidate will be expected to work towards professional accreditation.
