About the Role

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic Associate and Principal Transport Modellers in particular to fill key positions within our established and highly experienced transport team in Manchester, helping us to deliver highway and public transport, scheme appraisal and development assessment projects for a range of local, regional and national clients and help support our public sector teams and capitalise on emerging market opportunities.

The Manchester transport team offers clients a wide range of multi-disciplinary services including transport modelling as well as development planning work involving transport assessments, master planning, public transport studies and in complemented by our other offices nationally, including locally a modelling team in Leeds. Whilst the position is primarily focussed in our Manchester office, further project work may arise from our other offices in the North of England as well as in other parts of the UK.

We are looking for you to have a solid broad experience in transport planning and an in-depth appreciation of strategic transport modelling and appraisal, together with a good knowledge of the wider transport planning issues, with a proven ability to lead and direct small project teams.

 A typical week could include:

  • Managing and leading a range of strategic modelling projects working closely with senior members of the Strategic Modelling Business.
  • Project Management of projects and management of project teams.
  • Development and implementation of modelling and economic assessment methodologies where appropriate.
  • Assisting senior colleagues to implement technical quality procedure across the team.
  • Delivering strategic modelling projects to programme and budget.
  • Strategic transport model development including, but not limited to; model building, calibration/validation, model testing and auditing, checking and analysis of model output.
  • Interpretation of data and information, including preparation of technical reports and proposals for clients.
  • Skills transfer to team members.
  • Direct reporting to external and internal clients
  • Contributing to our process of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing relating to transport modelling across our national transport business.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a numerate transport discipline
  • Substantial experience in strategic transport modelling is required
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills together with an ability to explain transport modelling outputs to a non-technical audience.
  • Expert knowledge of transport modelling theory and methods, data collection, analytical techniques and appraisal methods.
  • In-depth experience of developing transport models from first principles, including forecasting techniques.
  • An Ability to devise study methodologies
  • Proven ability to build, calibrate and validate transport models with minimum supervision
  • Wide experience of strategic modelling highway and public transport software such as SATURN, VISSUM, Cube/Voyager, EMME2.
  • A clear and comprehensive understanding of UK Government transport planning policies and guidance, including WebTAG and DMRB.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools together with some desirable experience in VBA, Python programming or similar and experience of programming bespoke analysis tool.
