Roads and Freight Programme Lead

Job Description

It’s an exciting time at Midlands Connect.  We are the pan-Midlands partnership of local transport authorities, local enterprise partnerships and local business representatives working with the Department for Transport and its key delivery bodies. The partnership forms the transport component of the Midlands Engine for Growth. Our strategy for growth through investment in transport infrastructure will create more and better jobs, improve the quality of life for those living in the Midlands, as well as attract even more international businesses to the region; a region that is the largest economic area outside of London and the first to benefit from HS2.

We are seeking a dynamic person with extensive experience in strategic transport planning, particularly in strategic roads and highways.  The role will be to lead the development of Midlands Connect’s Roads programme, working alongside the Department for Transport, Highways England and Local Highway Authority partners.  It will be your job to ensure that the important strategic economic objectives of Midlands Connect are embedded in the technical work required to understand what future investments in the road network should be.  In particular you will be leading on the development of the concept for the ‘Major Roads Network’ across the Midlands and working with local partners to define it and determine a strategy for delivering continual improvement in its performance.  You will also ensure that the needs of the freight and logistics sector are at the forefront of our planning for roads, particularly given the strength of that sector and associated manufacturing in the region.

This is an exciting and interesting role, being at the forefront of developing one of the key Sub-National Transport Bodies in the UK.  You will work at a senior level across all partners and represent Midlands Connect to wider audiences across the industry.

For informal enquiries, please contact Simon Statham, Head of Technical Programmes for Midlands Connect on 0121 214 7119.
