Transport Modeller - Leeds and Manchester

These posts are based in Leeds and Manchester where we have a growing transport planning team offering a range of services to public and private sector clients.

Mouchel's Transport Planning Division deals with strategic and micro-simulation modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning, traffic management, engineering and road safety, parking strategy, public transport and a variety of related topics.

The requirement is for a Transport Modeller to assist with a range of transport studies dealing with highway and other modelling projects. The candidate should have experience of working on a range of similar projects.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to the technical development of traffic models and forecasting studies and the assessment of scheme impacts, including environmental, operational and economic appraisals.   Demonstration of your experience in a transport planning occupation, in either the public or the private sector would be expected with evidence of developing responsibilities within this career.

This should include personal capability in one or more of the following fields:

• Transport modelling and analysis • Highway or public transport scheme appraisal • Transport economics

You will have commitment to ongoing personal development and the development of others, providing the benefit of your significant experience and understanding of the transport planning profession. 

Role Specific Responsibilities:

• Downloading, extracting, manipulating and analysing traffic data• Calculation recording and checking• Use of bespoke software such as MapInfo, COBALT, QUADRO, SATURN, Paramics, TUBA, VISSIM etc • Extracting, downloading and presenting other data (e.g. geometry, accidents, bus routes);                                                                                                                                   • Deliver to agreed personal targets.• Deliver technical inputs to required quality, cost and time.• Prepare high quality technical notes.• Keep up to date with developments in areas of professional expertise.• Actively contribute towards other duties across the Business Unit e.g.: health & safety, quality, training, Client feedback etc.• Engage with more senior members of staff to confirm scope of work, timescales and budget expectations. Identify potential for change to agreed delivery outcomes.• Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives, ensuring that deliverables conform with the project manager’s requirements.• Maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients.

You will have;

• Numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related subject (essential).• MSc in Transport Planning (desirable).                                                                                                                              • Should have commenced on path to Chartered Professional (CEng, TPP or CMILT) status (desirable)• You should have experience, on a range of projects, of software packages from the following:- SATURN, TUBA, COBALT, QUADRO, S-Paramics, VISSIM (essential)• Experience of the following would also be an advantageous:- MapInfo, MyRIAD, traffic surveys, data analysis (desirable)• You should have awareness and knowledge of transport modelling theory/ method, data collection, analytical techniques & appraisal methods (essential)• You should have awareness and knowledge of UK standards, specifications and transport planning solutions (essential)• You should be proficient in Word and Excel and understand/have experience of macros etc. (essential)• Experience of working with public and private sector clients would be advantageous (desirable)• You should have a proven ability of working within a team environment (essential)• You should be highly numerate with strong problem solving skills (essential)• You should have a proven capability to communicate clearly (essential)• You should have the ability to work under minimum supervision (essential)• Experience of working within company project management system, safety health and environmental systems and processes would be advantageous (desirable)
