Regulation of Public Transport: Where has it come from and where is it going?

Venue: NTA Offices, Harcourt Lane, Dun Sceine, Dublin 2

As noted in the Government's White paper entitled ‘Regulating Better’, good quality regulation contributes to establishing and maintaining individual freedom and social cohesion.  However, the reverse is also true. Bad or cumbersome regulation not only creates barriers to efficient markets but also discourages competition and innovation.

This TPS event, hosted by Ciaran O'Gorman - Regulator at the National Transport Authority - will provide an introduction to Transport Regulation in Ireland, establishing why we need to regulate and what is good regulation?

Ciaran will provide an overview of law directing public bus services in Ireland, a run through of the history of public transport regulation, a summary of the current controls and checks in the market and a summary of where the market is heading.
